Cervejaria do Canto opens in June 2024 in a space in Angra at the end corner of rua de São João and rua dos Minhas Terras, that has been practically dysfunctional since the earthquake of January 1st, 1980, being used as a tavern at Sanjoaninas festivities for many years. The project began in 2018 and underwent changes inherent to the contingencies of the location and limitations typical of a World Heritage City.
In 2022, already during the site opperations we rolled up our sleeves and held a tavern during the festivities, which allowed us to enjoy the space and its centrality. We became more confident that we wanted to bring something new to the city.
With the amplifiers on and the lights up late for months, we shaped cozy space where there will be no shortage of sound and a kitchen capable of having salt for those who, one beer it's not enough!
The journey of craft beer in Portugal...
The real start took place around 2010, when the first craft beer brands began to emerge. They were the ones who demonstrated that it was possible to create a business from scratch and competently enter a market that had previously been duopolized. The craft beer movement in Portugal is relatively recent. While it is much larger in many parts of Europe, the market in Portugal is smaller compared to other countries of the same scale. However, it is going through a beer revolution, with more and more new producers beginning to venture into the segment. In just a few years it was possible to see the rapid creation of a large number of local breweries. It is possible to find countless different types of complex beers, which go beyond the most common styles produced until recently. According to reports, beer is the most consumed drink in Portugal . Next, wine - with consumption decreasing since 1990.
